The design of Traces of Memory for the Timeline, created by Hsin Chang, is a unique and innovative approach to residential architecture. The designer drew inspiration from childhood memories, resulting in a layout that deviates from the traditional square design. The long and narrow space evokes a sense of nostalgia and childhood wonder for the residents.

What sets this design apart is its high degree of flexibility, allowing for the creation of a unique living venue based on private collections. The fusion of modern and partial classical details, along with the use of vintage materials, creates a distinct style that transcends specific time periods. The addition of exquisite color planning and subtle French details further enhances the space, showcasing a fusion of art and timelines from the 60s, 70s, and present day.

The realization of this design is achieved through a combination of techniques and materials. The vintage quality of the dust area gradually blends into the open space, creating a seamless transition with the ancient texture and stone luster of the foyer. The flooring, furniture, and lighting all feature a used quality, adding to the overall charm and character of the space. The public area seamlessly integrates the living room, dining room, and kitchen, with a well-executed television wall and a blue aquarium adding a modern touch. Classical elements, such as door panels, French carvings on the ceiling, and wooden shutter blades, contribute to a classical atmosphere. The spatial color is defined by a slightly classical sofa with high color saturation, striking a harmonious balance between modern and classical aesthetics.

Spanning 281 square meters, this design offers ample space for comfortable living. The corridor leading to the private spaces is adorned with colored arc door panels, reflecting the personality preferences of the residents and adding a unique touch to each private space.

The design project was completed in 2016 in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Extensive research was conducted to ensure the success of this design. The refreshing greyish-blue color defines the dining room and kitchen space, while a petite English antique dining table fosters closer connections between family members. The addition of a small-sized rose gold chandelier creates an English-style ambiance without overwhelming the space. The distance between the dining table and the bar was carefully considered to meet the functional needs of the residents, prioritizing usability over strict aesthetic proportions.

One of the main challenges of this design was the concentration of private spaces on both sides of the area. However, the master bedroom successfully combines neutral tones with classical and retro styles, creating a harmonious fusion of old and new. Large color blocks and material details seamlessly blend with antique furniture and classical elements, resulting in a truly unique living space.
